An international manufacturer of commercial airliners approached Pinpoint with the need to precisely monitor the alignment of sub-assemblies inside wing sections.
Our engineering team modified a dual axis, Microgage 2D system to fit inside a bore tube and provide alignment information on the centerline, concentricity and parallelism of various components along the path of the laser reference beam. The width of the laser detector was increased to a diameter of 5 inches for this application and special software developed by Pinpoint to provide precise measurement information for the customer.
The picture above shows the laser transmitter assembly being tested with a standard Microgage 2D receiver. The finished receiver assembly, like the laser transmitter, is 6 inches in diameter and has spring loaded mounts to expand into the interior of a bore tube.
