Capabilities of a Dual-Axis Laser Measuring & Alignment System

A dual-axis laser measuring and alignment system makes measuring and alignments possible using incredibly high standards and precise measuring resolutions. Such a system is compact, easy to use, and intuitive, saving machinery manufacturers, utilities, aircraft/aerospace, medical, shipbuilding, electronics, mining, military, food processing, and other manufacturing professionals time and money. By utilizing a dual-axis laser measuring and alignment system, manufacturers can improve machinery efficiency, reduce equipment downtime, extend machinery life, increase profits, and reduce dependence on outside contractors.

Dual-axis laser measuring & alignment system capabilities include:

Straightness, linear measurements
The digital receiver for a dual-axis laser measuring & alignment system receiver can detect instantly if a guide rail, machine assembly, moving actuator, or traveling stage is straight and working reliably.

Flatness, planer measurements
The laser transmitter for a dual-axis laser measuring & alignment system is placed on an adjustable rotating base so that it can be turned to define a flat plane of laser light. Moving a digital receiver around a working surface, machinery components, or assemblies allows for measuring surface flatness and aligning components and assemblies in a precise plane.

Squareness, perpendicular measurements
The 90-Line right angle is a versatile optical attachment for a dual-axis laser measuring & alignment system that redirects the laser beam at a precise right angle, enabling the digital receiver to provide squareness measurements.

Parallelism measurements
By moving the 90-Line right angle to different locations along the beam path one can establish multiple parallel lines. By using a digital receiver and comparing readings along each line, parts and subassemblies along with their position and travel, can be checked for parallelism.

Run out measurements
Place the laser transmitter on a fixed datum surface and attach the dual-axis laser measuring & alignment system receiver to a moving machine slide or assembly and measure the run-out in the travel. Check multiple machinery axes and take measurements over long distant runs. Re-align machine travel when worn machinery areas are found.

Lathe and spindle alignment
Project a precise laser reference line for measurements by placing a laser in a machine tool spindle or collet or in a lathe chuck. Locate the dual-axis laser measuring & alignment system receiver on the tool holder, tailstock, bar feeder, or other machinery element to easily check centerline and parallelism alignment.

Dual-axis bore alignment
The laser reference beam can be adjusted and centered inside single or multiple bore tubes and the receiver can check bore position, concentricity, parallelism, and other geometric features.

Machinery leveling
A precision level on the laser transmitter allows for leveling and adjusting the laser reference beam to align and level machinery and production equipment to gravity.

Today’s laser alignment systems are highly versatile and easily adapted to many machinery and equipment applications. In addition, small fixtures are available to attach the laser transmitter and digital receivers to the parts of production machinery in order to quickly, precisely, and efficiently measure alignment problems and provide adjustments and corrections when needed.
